elmopan City Council honors Sir George Noel Brown on the occasion of his Plaque Unveiling and 81st, Birthday.

Today, on June 13th, a special event was held to honor the late Sir George Noel Brown, a distinguished figure in Belize. Born in Gales Point, Manatee, Sir George dedicated over four decades of his life to serving the people of Belize. He started his career as a lay magistrate and steadily climbed the ranks, eventually becoming the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Belize from 1991 to 1998. Sir George was the second native-born Belizean to hold this esteemed position, a testament to his legal acumen and commitment to justice.

Beyond his legal achievements, Sir George had a deep passion for sailing and was known for his enthusiastic support of the annual Baron Bliss Harbor Regatta races. He found great joy in observing talented football players, often mentoring and offering his support to them. His love for sports, particularly football, made him a familiar face on the field, where he quietly observed the game. In recognition of his remarkable service to the community, especially his dedication to youth and sports, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth lI bestowed upon him the title of Knight Bachelor on January 5, 1991. Today’s event commemorated Sir George’s legacy, with Lady Magdalene Brown, his wife, as the special guest, honoring his remarkable contributions to Belizean society.

This occasion was possible through the efforts of Councilor Pauline Soberanis Tillett.

C

ouncilor Pauline Soberanis Tillet organized an impactful Mental Health Forum specifically designed for first-form students of Belmopan Comprehensive School. Recognizing the importance of addressing mental well-being at an early age, the forum aimed to raise awareness, educate, and provide support to these young individuals.

Mrs. Christa Courtney, Professional Counsellor, and Supt. Martha Rhys, Commanding Officer for the Belmopan Police Formation, served as the primary speakers, and Mayor Sharon Palacio was in attendance. The students were captivated by the mesmerizing performances of 20-year-old Jonathan Chiquin who is a magician, while 19-year-old Huston Alvarez, also known as Hubee, delivered valuable advice to the students and sang one of his popular songs titled “Life”.
