Procedures

  1. Two complete sets of working drawings for house plans.

  2.  Complete building permit form provided. To download the application form click here.

  3. All taxes must be paid in full before drawings can be approved.

  4. Pay building permit fee, which is based on square footage of building.

  5. Pay deposit for removal of construction debris, which is $75.00 per load.

  6. Deposit is refundable after two weeks of completion of house and inspection is done by the Engineering Section.

  7. Deposit is not refundable, if after two weeks construction debris is still on the street side the Council keeps the deposit and removes the debris.

  8. Drawings are sent to the City Engineer for approval on Friday, and are returned back by the following Monday, if it is approved

  9. Drawings that have been approved, one set is given back to the house owner and the other kept on file in the Engineering Section.

  10. A complete set of approved drawings must always be on site for inspection by the Engineering Section.

  11. Permission must be given by the Engineering Section for construction material to be stored on streets.

Building regulations

  • The building shouldn’t occupy more than 60% of surface area of property, unless approved otherwise.

  • Any construction should be at least 4 feet away from the boundary of property.

  • All construction should have an approved plan by the council.

  • In event that you’re constructing a fence and it shouldn’t be above 6 feet high, unless approved otherwise.

  • All driveways over open drains should have an approved plan.

  • Any construction that is being done the plan should always be on site, in case of building inspector.
